Psychosomatic medicine is a scientific and medical discipline that deals with the aspects of the mutual effects of psyche and body.
It is not easy to separate the area of the psyche from the body, because the brain is an organ in which all psychological processes take
place, and it is even more difficult to distinguish the psyche from the soul. In simple terms we can say that psychosomatics focuses on
feelings. If the emotions are significantly disturbed, it will be manifested through physical symptoms. Also, a physical illness often
causes emotional imbalance. The focus of the psychosomatic treatment is on the psychosomatic/ psychotherapeutic conversation, supplemented
by nutritional and workout recommendations and also, if necessary, by medication.
Psychiatry and psychosomatic medicine are very
related areas, although there are diseases such as dementia, psychosis and addiction that do not fall into the domain of psychosomatics
and require psychiatric treatment.
As a specialist in psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy, Dr. Sanja Ilić-Ćoćić has both medical and psychotherapeutic
expertise.
Her psychotherapeutic approach is based on cognitive behavioral therapy, which is a scientifically based psychotherapeutic
method, and it has been proven as very effective. Up to 75% of people attending psychotherapy sessions report improvement of their condition.
It can be in the form of individual, couples or group therapy. Psychotherapy is a professional conversation with a specific plan and goal.
A psychotherapist can be a specialist in psychosomatics or psychiatry or a licensed psychologist.
Stress is not simply an expression that is a part of our daily lives. There is no precise way to define or measure stress, since all
of us experience it differently.
Our stress response is a part of our brain‘s defense mechanism which activates in life-threatening
situations. This ability has probably saved the lives of many of our ancestors. When faced with danger, our systems react rapidly, our heart
rate increases and we start breathing faster in order to supply the muscles with oxygen, and therefore energy in the shortest amount of time
possible, preparing us for a fight or flight response. The problem is that our brain sometimes does not distinguish the life-threatening situation from a business meeting ,
initiating a stress response even though there is no real life threat. As a result, the stress hormone level increases in our body,
especially in our muscles. No wonder we feel tense.
Chronic stress can cause serious illnesses, with professional help, you will be able to identify individual risks and learn the methods
of coping with stress based on many years of research of the effect a modern lifestyle has on our health.
Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is a new, non-invasive, neuromodulating procedure that uses magnetic fields to stimulate
nerve cells in the brain to improve symptoms of psychosomatic disorders.
During an TMS session, an electromagnetic coil is placed near the forehead. The electromagnet painlessly delivers a magnetic pulse that
stimulates nerve cells in the region of the brain involved in mood, pain and anxiety control.

Especially during the pandemic, this type of contact with the doctor has become more common. Big part of diagnostics and therapy in psychosomatic
medicine is based on conversation, therefore video consultation has become an important element of the health system.
Choose a quiet environment and prepare for the conversation.
The program we use is certified by the Bavarian Medical Association and offers reliable protection of your data. The contact is established through
a video call, since facial expressions and body language are an important part of the diagnosis. You will need a cell phone, a laptop or a computer
with a camera, a microphone and a stable internet connection.
The link for the video call will be forwarded to you in an email after booking an appointment.
